The Denver Hospice Connects With Older Adults at Highlands Ranch Health Expo

Understanding health care options and planning for the future can make a meaningful difference for individuals and their families. Community events provide valuable opportunities to ask questions, explore resources and learn about the care available at different stages of life.

Recently, Dee Licona, The Denver Hospice Director of Business Development, and Kathleen Trapani, The Denver Hospice Community Liaison, attended the Older Adult Health Expo hosted at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center.

Sharing Information That Supports Informed Decisions

During the expo, Dee and Kathleen shared educational information on several important topics, including advance directives and the differences between home health, palliative care and hospice care.

Advance directives allow individuals to document their health care preferences and communicate their wishes should they become unable to speak for themselves. Understanding the available care options can also help individuals and families make decisions that align with their needs, goals and values.

Although home health, palliative care and hospice care can each play an important role in supporting patients, they serve different purposes. Learning about these differences helps people better understand what services may be appropriate for their circumstances.

Building Community Connections

In addition to sharing helpful resources, Dee and Kathleen brought some fall treats to add a little seasonal spirit to the event.

The Denver Hospice appreciates opportunities to connect with older adults, answer questions and help community members learn more about advance care planning and supportive care options.

Thank you to the Highlands Ranch Senior Center for hosting the Older Adult Health Expo and bringing together organizations dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of our community.
