FIND YOUR PLACE IN THE CIRCLE

The key focus of The Denver Hospice is quality of life. That’s why we have a multi-disciplinary team approach to caring for patients, their families and friends. Team members are highly skilled individuals with specialized roles, working together to map out a plan that meets physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. Volunteers are a vital part of everything we do because they make the circle larger for all of us. Are you ready to find your unique place inside the circle?

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF WAYS TO VOLUNTEER,
SUCH AS:

PATIENT CARE VOLUNTEER – Providing support to families as they open up and let people in, is an incredibly rewarding experience. There are many ways you can offer assistance – to a family in their home, at a long-term care facility, or in The Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Think about the different ways your unique skills and interests would be best utilized…Visiting patients. Providing companionship and support. Relieving caregivers. Telephone support for patients and families, or simply being there to listen.

GRIEF CENTER VOLUNTEER – When a family member is experiencing grief, a phone call or visit can make all the difference in the world. Bereavement volunteers are trained to give practical and emotional support to family members in need. Opportunities also exist at the Footprints Children’s Grief Center, helping facilitate programs with grieving children, teens and their parents and guardians.

OFFICE AND SPECIAL PROJECTS VOLUNTEER – Maybe you’re a behind the scenes kind of person. Then a clerical or office support position might be just what you’re looking for. We also need people to help organize our special events and fundraisers held throughout the year – and work booths and exhibits. Or help educate people in the community about The Denver Hospice and all of the important things that we do.

WHEN YOU TAKE THE TIME

Our work revolves around people and the relationships we build. So when you do join the circle, we simply ask that you stay with us for at least one year. How many hours you spend daily, weekly, or monthly depends on the specific volunteer role you choose.

It’s natural to want to help others with the end-of-life or grieving process when you’ve experienced a loss yourself. But if your loss was in the last year or two, that probably isn’t your best option. Many other opportunities exist though – including office support and help on special events.

  TEEN VOLUNTEERS

Teens who volunteer at The Denver Hospice have a special place inside our circle. If you are between the ages of 14 and 18, and are looking for ways to make a difference in people’s lives, this is your opportunity to become connected. Not only do we have a program designed just for you but it’s a unique opportunity to become involved in your community. There are a number of ways you can volunteer:

Connect to patients at our Inpatient Care Center by:
  • Visiting patients
  • Escorting patients outside
  • Interacting with patients through special crafts and activities
Connect to patients in their homes by:
  • Baby-sitting
  • Working in the yard
  • Removing snow
  • Caring for pets
  • Decorating for the holidays
Connect to our staff by helping out in the office by:
  • Assisting with mailings
  • Typing and filing
  • Working on special projects

Teen volunteers gain real world experience about health care and human service careers. Plus, your participation can help you meet scholastic requirements. Our programs are flexible, functional and fun.
